Skateboarding can be a sport or an embodiment of art; it can be trendy or carry a traditional charm. Macau recently hosted a dynamic skateboarding event, which not only featured skateboarding performances but also showcased 44 skateboard artworks created by 32 artists.

The designs drew inspiration from Macau’s local culture, Lingnan heritage, and classical themes, merging bold innovation with meticulous craftsmanship. A playful, chibi-style rendition of Guanyin—the revered Chinese goddess of mercy—replaced solemnity with charm. The lively mascot of China’s National Games leaped into action, full of energy and whimsy. The striking five-board collage of Macau’s iconic Templo A-Má, perfectly capturing the intricate beauty of Lingnan religious architecture.

The curator noted that skateboard art is a rising trend in youth culture, and they hope the fusion of culture and sports will deepen both locals and tourists’ appreciation of Macau’s heritage and Lingnan history. The event also featured a cross-regional artist exchange, where young designers shared their vision: to make tradition resonate with the next generation through fresh, unexpected mediums.
