Dr Eng. Zvikomborero Lazarus Duri:
“Herbal medicine is medicine that goes directly to an individual ailment and clears it off. Unlike conventional medicine which talks more on the issue of management of a disease rather than clearing it.”
At the 2025 Hong Kong International Traditional Chinese Medicine Expo, a Zimbabwean PhD scholar highlighted the power of herbal medicine—the core of Traditional Chinese Medicine—to target the root cause of disease.
This isn't a new trend. For generations, since the time of their ancestors, the natural wisdom of herbal medicine has been taking root across Africa.
Zimbabwe is turning to these remedies for their natural, organic composition—a compelling alternative to synthetics that can carry harsh side effects.
Some of the African herbal remedies are: ginger, the bright blue butterfly pea flower, yarrow – a cluster of flat-topped flowers with aromatic toothed leaves, as well as makoni, a herb indigenous to Zimbabwe.
The belief is powerful: that herbal medicine can offer profound relief for a spectrum of illnesses, from Covid-19 and HIV to sexually transmitted infections and beyond.
In essence, they see herbal medicine as the body's ultimate operating system: a sophisticated, natural program to efficiently manage and eliminate disease.
