King Yin Lei, the iconic hilltop mansion overlooking Wan Chai, has reopened to the public for a limited run of free guided tours, with bookings now available online. The red-brick residence, perched along Stubbs Road, is widely admired for its distinctive “Chinese Renaissance” style, blending Lingnan architectural traditions with subtle Art Deco elements.
Built in 1937 on a sprawling hillside site above Happy Valley, the heritage landmark reflects the legacy of Hong Kong’s early Chinese merchant class and has featured in both local and international productions. Following careful restoration and its declaration as a monument, access is now offered through periodic guided visits.
Tours are held on weekends in four one-hour sessions, each accommodating up to 30 visitors. Led by Antiquities and Monuments Office docents, sessions are conducted in Cantonese, Putonghua or English.
Places are released every Monday morning on a first-come, first-served basis, with strong demand expected.
