Recently, residents in Shenzhen were surprised to find a robotic security assistant, dressed in a miniature metro uniform, operating at a busy downtown subway station. The robot drew curious looks and prompted commuters to stop for photos. Shenzhen Metro Group confirmed that the robotic assistant is now part of their workforce.
In fact, the line has been equipped with such robots since its full opening half a year ago. These robots are fitted with visual recognition technology, allowing them to accurately screen luggage and remind passengers carrying beverages to undergo security checks. They also help direct passengers for smoother entry, improving overall efficiency.
Adding a touch of charm to daily commuting, the robots can interact with passengers—making heart gestures and posing for pictures—to create a more enjoyable travel experience.
While some concerns have been raised about robots replacing human jobs, Shenzhen Metro Group emphasised that the robotic system and human staff operate independently under different frameworks. The introduction of robots aims to enhance operational efficiency rather than replace employees, and no staff reductions have occurred.
