[Inno & Tech] World’s First 5-Ton eVTOL Completes Conversion Flight

A Chinese technology company’s independently developed 5-ton-class eVTOL has completed a conversion flight at a low-altitude base in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, in east China, the firm announced. The company says it is the first—and so far only—organization worldwide to achieve a successful conversion flight in this weight class.

The aircraft uses a family-style composite wing and an innovative three-surface layout and is the first eVTOL to raise maximum takeoff weight into the 5-ton class. That increase brings greater payload and range: the pure-electric variant has a stated maximum range of about 250 km, while the hybrid version is claimed to reach up to 1,500 km. On site, the flight demonstration showed the aircraft transitioning from vertical takeoff to forward flight and fixed-wing cruise, then back to transition and a smooth landing.

The company says its product line now spans large eVTOL cargo aircraft, a six-seat manned model, the 5-ton-class vehicle, and concepts for eVTOL zero-carbon water airports, signaling an intent to cover cargo, passenger, and infrastructure roles in autonomous low-altitude aviation.
