A planned expansion of the Greater Bay Area’s “free flow” yachting scheme is set to enhance regional connectivity, with new mainland ports expected to gain direct access to Hong Kong as early as May. A facility near Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport is among those likely to be added, moving beyond the current pilot arrangement centred on Shenzhen Bay Marina Club.   The initiative is designed to streamline cross-border sailing, reducing procedural barriers while maintaining efficient customs clearance. Industry observers say the scheme is already attracting Guangdong yacht owners, drawn by Hong Kong’s appeal for leisure cruising, including night voyages across Victoria Harbour, alongside increased spending on luxury experiences.   The region’s yachting potential is significant, supported by a growing fleet and expanding marina infrastructure. Hong Kong is also advancing plans to strengthen its position, including a proposed expansion of the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter and a new smart monitoring system to allow more flexible anchoring, reinforcing its ambition to become a leading regional yachting hub.
