Hangzhou, in east China’s Zhejiang Province, is seeing embodied intelligent robots applied across an ever-wider range of scenarios. In electrical utility tunnels nearly 19 metres underground, robotic dogs patrol, detect issues such as electric discharges, and even perform maintenance tasks.

Officials at State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company noted that robots are now widely used in operations. “Compared to last year, the functions of the robotic dog have been expanded from initial cable inspection to maintenance tasks,” said Yao Guangyuan, deputy director of the cable operation and inspection centre.

Beyond utilities, robots are taking on dangerous jobs, from security patrols and fire extinguishing to assisting photographers in live-streaming sports events. Zhou Yanxin, director of DEEP Robotics’ R&D operations in Hangzhou, highlighted industry collaboration to mature technology and expand applications.

Hangzhou is also accelerating efforts to strengthen and supplement the industrial chain for embodied intelligent robotics, driving innovation and practical deployment across sectors.
