A fully robotic restaurant powered by artificial intelligence has begun trial operations in Hangzhou, east China’s Zhejiang Province, marking a new step in smart catering.

Inside the restaurant, AI-driven cooking robots prepare a wide range of dishes, drinks and desserts. One robot is seen making the classic Chinese dish Three-Cup Chicken, precisely adding ingredients and seasonings before stirring and adjusting flavours automatically. Within minutes, the dish is ready to serve.

Customers have responded with curiosity and delight. One diner said the food “tastes good and suits my preferences”, while another remarked that seeing robots cook feels like “a childhood dream has come true”.

According to staff, the robots can prepare more than 100 dishes, mainly from Hangzhou cuisine, known for its light and delicate flavours. The team has also created 24 seasonal dishes inspired by China’s traditional 24 solar terms, blending modern technology with ancient culinary wisdom.

More than 10 robots handle cooking, noodles, coffee, serving and cleaning, creating a seamless, futuristic dining experience.
