Top wusheng performers from four major Peking opera troupes in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin and Hubei will gather in Hong Kong this June 26-28 for the “Showcase of Peking Opera Actors in Full Armour Roles”, one of the highlight programmes of the Chinese Culture Festival 2026.
Held at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the three-day event will present classic productions including “The Battle at Changbanpo and The Incident at Hanjin Crossing”, “The Pulley” and “On Iron Cage Mountain”. Inspired by legendary tales from “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”, “The Water Margin” and “The Story of Yue Fei”, the performances celebrate loyalty, courage and righteousness through the dynamic artistry of Peking opera.
Audiences will also gain deeper insight into the cultural heritage of wusheng roles, known for their elaborate costumes, stylised combat movements and acrobatic martial techniques. The festival will feature exhibitions, backstage tours, artist talks and demonstration performances, offering visitors an immersive experience of this treasured Chinese art form.
