[Cultural HK] The Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail
[Cultural HK] The Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail
: :

The Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail, inaugurated in 1999, is the second government-established heritage trail in the New Territories. Stretching approximately 2.6 kilometres in Fanling, it links a series of historic buildings within walking distance, offering a half-day route through the traditional landscapes of the area.

The trail was initiated by the Antiquities Advisory Board and developed by the Antiquities and Monuments Office with support from local residents, government departments and heritage organisations. It reflects a collaborative effort to preserve and present the cultural heritage of the region.

Lung Yeuk Tau is closely associated with the Tang clan, one of the major lineages in the New Territories. The clan established a network of villages over centuries, forming what is known as the “Five Wais and Six Tsuen”, consisting of walled villages and surrounding settlements.

The area retains important traditional structures such as ancestral halls, temples and enclosing walls, alongside continuing village customs and festivals. These sites reflect the historical development of rural communities in Hong Kong and the enduring cultural practices of the Tang clan.
