The 2026 Chinese Culture Festival is turning the spotlight on Luoyang, bringing the celebrated Luoyang Yu Opera Troupe to Hong Kong for its long-awaited debut this July.

Presented as part of the 14th Chinese Opera Festival, the programme will showcase the rich heritage and vibrant storytelling of Yu opera, one of China's most popular regional opera traditions. Led by acclaimed performer Guan Meili, a disciple of legendary maestro Ma Jinfeng, the troupe will be joined by Plum Blossom Award winners Wang Hui and Jia Wenlong.

Audiences can experience the Ma School classic “Mu Guiying Takes Command” on July 17 at Ko Shan Theatre New Wing, followed by an evening of excerpts from renowned works including “The Spear as a Token of Love”, “Demanding Justice from the Emperor” and “Five Generations of Loyal Generals” on July 18.

Beyond the stage, a meet-the-artists session and free performances for local students will offer opportunities to explore the history, artistry and enduring appeal of Yu opera.
