Cambodia celebrated the official grand opening of the Techo International Airport this week, a state-of-the-art aviation hub designed by world-renowned architect Norman Foster. Located a short distance from downtown Phnom Penh, the airport represents a major step forward in Cambodia’s bid to enhance its global connectivity and tourism sector.
As the country’s first 4F-class international airport, capable of handling the world’s largest aircraft, the Techo International Airport is Cambodia’s biggest and most advanced aviation project to date. Its construction was a global effort, involving architects, planners and construction firms from across Europe, Asia, and beyond. Prime Minister Hun Manet hailed the airport as “a source of pride for the Cambodian people.”
Chairman of GX Foundation Mr. CY Leung, who also attended the ceremony, highlighted the airport’s role as a new catalyst for Cambodia’s growth and emphasised Hong Kong’s potential to participate in regional infrastructure cooperation.
Techo International Airport currently operates with 31 airlines, including Etihad Airways, which recently launched flights, and Turkish Airlines, set to begin services in December. The airport is expected to boost international traffic and drive Cambodia’s economic and tourism development to new heights, with its final phase projected to accommodate more than 50 million passengers annually.
