To further facilitate people-to-people exchanges, China has implemented a visa exemption policy for holders of ordinary Canadian and British passports commencing February 17, 2026. Eligible individuals may enter China visa-free for purposes including business, tourism, family visits, exchanges, or transit for up to 30 days. The policy will remain in effect until December 31, 2026.
Canadian lawmakers and local officials have hailed the policy, describing the new strategic partnership as a new chapter in bilateral ties. They noted that the visa exemption creates more opportunities for mutual understanding and practical cooperation across sectors. Peter Wilson, the British ambassador to China, shared a video on social media welcoming the policy and encouraging British citizens to explore China's diverse attractions.
To date, China has granted visa-free access to citizens of 50 countries and signed mutual visa exemption agreements with at least 29 nations, further deepening its international exchanges and cooperation around the world.
