An interactive art installation featuring giant robotic cats will be on display at WestK FunFest 2026, inviting visitors of all ages to pause, relax and interact with the unusual creations.
Titled “Air Giants – The Cats that Slept for a Thousand Years”, the installation will be presented at the Harbourside East Lawn in the Art Park from 19 March to 7 April, with free admission.
The work features a family of three large inflatable sleeping cats, two adults and a kitten, measuring up to 10 metres in length. Designed to respond to human presence and touch, the soft robotic sculptures may twitch their tails or emit gentle purring sounds when visitors stroke them or lean against them.
Created by UK-based art studio Air Giants, which specialises in large-scale soft robotic installations, the project was originally commissioned by Manchester Museum at the University of Manchester.
For WestK FunFest, the installation has been expanded into a playful “cat family”, set against the harbourfront to create an engaging public art experience that also encourages reflection on care, empathy and our relationship with the future.
