Hong Kong’s M+ museum will host Zao Wou-Ki: Master Printmaker, the first major exhibition in Asia dedicated to the Chinese-French master’s printmaking. Running from 13 December 2025 to 3 May 2026, the showcase spans five decades of Zao’s work (1949–2000), highlighting how printmaking fuelled his technical experimentation and global collaborations. Co-curated with the Zao Wou-Ki Foundation, the exhibition features nearly 180 works, including prints, illustrated books, and archival material, from M+ holdings, gifts from Zao’s family, and over fifty international loans. Landmark works include Lecture par Henri Michaux (1950) and À la gloire de l’image et art poétique (1977). Organised into three sections, Encountering Printmaking, Towards Abstraction, and No Boundaries, the exhibition traces Zao’s evolution from early experiments in Paris to mature works blending Eastern and Western traditions. Complementary displays explore his techniques, global collaborations, and the dialogue between poetry and prints, offering a rare chance to experience the full richness of Zao’s graphic oeuvre.
