After the snowfall cleared, Huihe Wetland and the Binhu Reservoir in Yutai County, Shandong Province, in northern China, unfolded like a tranquil ink painting. Mirror-like waters reflected the crisp sky, while thousands of migratory birds skimmed the surface, foraged, and rested, bringing vibrant life to the winter scene. In recent years, Yutai has stepped up wetland protection and restoration through tree and grass planting and water-quality improvements, significantly enhancing the local environment. The wetland now records more than 200 bird species and attracts large numbers of staging and wintering migrants each year. The scene, described as “a lake of clear water, three seasons of fragrant blooms, and four seasons of birdsong,” serves as a vivid reminder that careful restoration can transform a brief snowfall into an enduring showcase of nature.
