South China’s Hengqin Port in Zhuhai has rapidly established itself as one of the busiest cross-border gateways in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, surpassing 100 million passenger trips since opening in August 2020, according to local immigration authorities.   Positioned just across a narrow stretch of water from Macau, the port has become a vital link for regional integration, supporting growing exchanges in trade, business and daily life. It also serves as a key access point to the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone.   Efficiency gains have played a central role in its rise. A streamlined clearance system, requiring only a single facial recognition and fingerprint verification, has reduced processing times to under 20 seconds.   As a result, cross-border activity has surged. Daily passenger traffic has climbed from around 20,000 in its early days to approximately 100,000, while vehicle crossings have reached 11.7 million, reflecting sustained growth in mobility and economic connectivity.
